One of the most powerful rituals I have ever participated in
— Raquel Vidal

WHAT IS IT?

The Etëtung water drumming  is a collective experience where we all gather on a circle in the water (waist-deep water) co-creating a landscape of sounds by rhythmically slapping and drumming our hands on the surface of the water creating a diverse repertoire of rhythms and pitches, along with singing. Musicians are invited to play along, guided by us.

In the water we arrive, we breathe and start to feel our bodies touching the body of the water, experiencing sensations through movement. Voices are invited to be explored either by improvising or by singing some water music songs that are connected to the water, to gratitude to nature, empowerment. They are mostly vibrant, rhythmic. Water is the instrument.

They came from the four worlds, the vision seekers, the conformism questioners, the medicine men and women. Drums beat, hearts open, and inspired by the rituals of the Vanuatu tribe, we celebrated Water. It’s life. It’s urgent rescue

OUR VISION

Our vision is to create a collective, sustainable, transformative experience, raise awareness, expand consciousness and reconnect us to our infinite possibilities in the relationship with our bodies, the elements and the collective body. The drumming with our hands on the water connects us to nature on a skin to skin experience, opening our bodies, voices and hearts, creating a powerful experience that helps release bodies energetically, activating the cells of our inner waters, leading to transformative journeys both individual and collective. We rediscover our playful inner child with joy and well being.

It's a celebration for life, freedom, ourselves, love and most of all participation in climate change discourse in deep respect for nature.

I can not describe how making music with using hands as sticks and the river as a drum was exceptional. Singing all together, almost 200 souls and smashing water all over. Water is in us, she is alive and give us all the power that we need to our physical body. So grateful for this experience
— Edouard

HOW WE STARTED?

Spending some time together as friends, enjoying the sun and splashing in a swimming pool. We discovered the pleasure of drumming with our hands on the water, the sound and rhythm that we were producing. After some research we found out that there is a tribe in Vanuatu where women do the so-called Etëtung, “ Vanuatu Women's Water Music” or “water percussion” as a playful way to spend some time together celebrating nature in its magnificence. It is found in the ni-Vanuatu community of Leweton.

Being inspired by this tradition we redesign a new sustainable and respectful way to emotionally connect to nature, creating new forms of relating with the water where people engage with and respond to the natural environment with joy, playfulness and awareness. This guided us into magical moments of deep co-creation. When we care we protect.
